No children from Girls and Boys Town have fled or been found in a drain in Manenberg, said the CEO Ms Lee Loynes.
She was responding to a report in yesterday’s edition which had made such a claim.
Ms Loynes pointed out that Girls and Boys Town is in fact in Macassar and not anywhere near Manenberg. “A possible reason for the confusion is because Duin en Dal near Manenberg is called Boystown – but we are not situated there. Adding to the confusion there is also a state-run detention centre for youth which is called Bonnytown.
“We are not a reformatory as was reported, and abuse of children is completely foreign to what we do. Some of our children come from broken homes and we – successfully – home and school them and send them into their adult lives as rounded individuals.”
Ms Loynes explained that all residential Girls and Boys Town facilities have proper oversight at all times, including Macassar.
